Katia Thomas project  "DAESSE"

Katia Thomas, a 16-year-old from California, is not only an exceptional 10th-grade student but also an award-winning artist and inventor. She has quickly become a rising star in the world of environmental activism, using her talents to make a tangible impact on the planet. Recently, Katia's inspiring journey was featured in the upcoming documentary Green SuperHeroes 2030, where she plays a central role as one of the protagonists.

Her dedication to environmental causes has earned her the prestigious Green World Award, and she has been honored as an international Green Ambassador. The ceremony will be held in St Pual’s Cathedral, London June 30th 2025. In the documentary, Katia passionately advocates for renewable energy, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in securing a cleaner, more sustainable future for generations to come. Her unwavering commitment to the planet and its future is truly inspiring. She invented a machine called DAESSE that generates electricity from garbage, which earned her an honorable mention at the Los Angeles Science Fair.

Katia works closely with indigenous communities from the Amazon rainforest, particularly with Janeth Guanelema from the COFAN community of Ecuador, creating petitions to advocate for the preservation of their land and fundraising to help purchase canoes to defend their territories from deforestation and illegal logging. She collaborates with these communities to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect these vital ecosystems. Following the success of the documentary Green SuperHeroes 2030, Katia is also in the process of creating a nonprofit organization, Green Superheroes Movement. This nonprofit will help children from all around the world continue creating environmental projects. Her work with indigenous peoples highlights the importance of their knowledge and traditions in conserving the environment.

Beyond environmental protection, Katia is deeply interested in the power of medicinal plants, which she believes hold incredible potential for healing and sustainability. In addition to her environmental work, Katia is an avid fan of the magical world of Harry Potter, drawing inspiration from the books' themes of bravery, friendship, and the fight for a better world. She believes that, like the heroes in her favorite stories, anyone can make a difference and contribute to a brighter future. Katia's diverse passions and talents come together to create a young leader who is truly changing the world, one step at a time. She is also a leader in her school’s Sustainability Program and the Artemis Center, which advocates for environmental and social justice.
